My daughter has to change the water for her Beta fish. Can she just use the water from the tap right away or should she let it stand at room temp. for a day. She just has 1 fish in a fish bowl with no extras. If she can use it right away, what should the temp. be?

Hey fish experts, can you help me before I make a trip to the pet store? Okay, I want to get a beta fish, but I wanted to know if they have to live in a bowl/jar with a live plant in it, or if they can live in a regular fish bowl. so I just wanted to know before I went and bought one so I could know if I needed to get the plant also. If so, what is the purpose of the plant? And what type should I get? Thanks I don’t insist on the bowl, I just thought that is what they had to be kept in since that’s the only want I have ever seen them. That is why I am asking a question, to LEARN about it. That way I can have some information in mind beofre I go get one. Thanks to everyone so far.
